Navy safety equipment expert gains high level management qualification with ibp academy
A Royal Navy aviation survival equipment expert has gained a top management qualification with ibp academy.
Chief Petty Officer Si Lanzon has been awarded a Level 7 Certificate in Executive Management from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
A veteran of HMS Gannet, Si was recently presented with his certificate by John Parker and Brenda Emslie of ibp academy at RNAS Prestwick, Ayrshire.
Si currently works on the flight survival equipment desk in Portsmouth at the Royal Navy’s Command Headquarters. But he spent much of his naval career stationed at Royal Naval Air Station Prestwick, formerly as part of 819 Naval Air Squadron and later as part of Gannet SAR Flight.
He is due to leave the navy in spring 2012 and this professional management qualification will be key to his future career – which he hopes will be involved with the offshore industry, allowing him to remain in Scotland.
“I have been in the Navy for just short of 26 years serving in a variety of ships and establishments,” said Si. “And, I have to say, I really have enjoyed the experience.
“A fair amount of my career has been spent at HMS Gannet either on second line duties in the survival equipment section, or front line at 819 Naval Air Squadron often deployed at sea.
“I have great memories of my various jobs in Ayrshire, from my first draft to Gannet as a young naval airman in 1989 all the way through to my last job at the unit, which culminated in 2008 with me handing over the once military-led survival equipment section to a civilian team.
“I must have spent not far short of half my navy life at Gannet and was really keen to return for this certificate presentation and to catch up with old friends.
“The ILM Level 7 was particularly intense and the basis of the course was a consolidation of all the training I have done in the navy, in leadership and management. It allowed me to look at not only my present position in the navy but all previous jobs I had done with regards to the development of a manager.
“It was amazing to see how much of my experience could be applied within the course – I’m pleased and proud that I’ve managed to complete it and gain this qualification.”
