Students in Scotland may be able to take advantage of Individual Learning Accounts of either £200 or £500 (depending on the type of course you are undertaking). These are available to students earning £22,000 pa or less.

Students in England can find out more about potential financial help with learning by referring to the Financial help for adult learners section of the Directgov website.

The government has set up a new Leadership and Management Advisory Service (LMAS) to help eligible employers identify and fund development opportunities for their senior leaders. The aim of the service is to foster the leadership and management skills of senior staff so they can make full use of their workforce and accelerate the growth of their business. For more detail please see the Employers section below.

A Guide to Funding for Adult Learners in Wales is available on the Welsh Assembly Government (Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru) website.

Financial Help for Adults is a leaflet detailing practical support for students in Northern Ireland.

Many banks offer Professional & Career Development Loans to individual learners to help pay for course fees. These are not re-payable until you have completed your course of study.

In Scotland, business training grants of up to 50% are available to SMEs (5-249 employees) through many local authorities. In fact, in Glasgow, funding support of up to 80% has recently been made available.

The Flexible Training Opportunities scheme run by Skills Development Scotland also offers up to 50% of training costs (1-150 employees) to a maximum of £500 per employee and £5000 per business. This fund is now open until March 31st 2012.

In England, a government grant of up to £1,000 for use on management and leadership development activity, such as any training is now available through the Leadership and Management Advisory Service. Companies will be expected to match-fund this grant – i.e. to receive a grant of £500, your business will have to contribute £500 of its own money.

A good source of information regarding potential sources of funding can be found on the GRANTnet website.

To find out more about any of these funding opportunities, call one of our advisers on 0845 890 2549 or fill out the contact form on the website. And look out for ibp academy's guide to training funding in the UK - coming soon!
